We offer many succulents quite suitable for making arrangements

60044 DISCHIDIA ALBIDA [HORT] ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.50 "Propeller Vine" Propeller-shaped pairs of attractive gray- green leaves on soft swollen pendant (or climbing if it can find something to twine around) stems make this a great basket subject--extremely popular twining about on open wire topiary frams. Bizarre little clusters of urn shaped blimp blossoms sometimes appear at leaf nodes. This is most effectively presented gently twining about the outlines of an open wire topiary, very cute when wraped around and around a mossed succulent wreath. 60632 ECHEVERIA RUNYONII MONSTROSUS CRA CGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Frilled rosettes of fleshy crested-edged leaves with gray glaucous pearly surfaces distinguish this as the "Topsy Turvy Plant" because the alabaster leaves look as if they are tightly packed upside down into a tight ball--like an ivory football mum! Full sun brings out the best pearly toned surface and encourages the mid-winter wands of peach toned blossoms. Looks quite complicated, yet easy to grow with adequate light.

66038 HATIORA (RHIPSALIS) SALICORNIOIDES CAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.00 "Drunkard's Dream" or "Dancing Bones" Epiphytic Rhipsalis cousin with stiftly arching thickly-branched sprays of bottle-shaped branchlets tipped with yellow flowers fading to salmon; soon makes a wonderful windowsill potplant (or with time, a stunning hanging basket subject) with very regularly dividing bone shaped stem section forming a very symetrical outline. Distinct from and quite unlike its Rhipsalis kin in that the "Drunkard's Dream" has stem segments which are determinate, meaning in botanical terms that each little bottle shaped segment has a predetermined size and shape when it starts to be formed. Usually shipped as URCuttings in dry moss.

65413 HAWORTHIA UBOMBOENSIS LIL PRICE: $ 6.50 The unique "False Tillandsia" has the stoloniferous character and stiff open rosette of H. limifolia (under which it has been classified); however the pale green smooth leaves lack any ridging. Handsome unique species turning liliac in bright light. Stoloniferous habit makes this popular in mossed topiary and in mossed succulent wreaths as offsets pop out randomly after burrowing below.

60816 HOYA BELLA PAXTONII ASC TGH HP PRICE: $ 10.00 Crinkle-edged leaves on pendant stems with flat umbles of white flowers with cute pink coronas. Indian collection originally distruibuted as H. Paxtonii (Nichols). Usually sent in pots, but when demand is high or during periods of extended warm weather, is safer to send unrooted cuttings in moss.

61014 HOYA CARNOSA HOLLIANA VARIEGATA ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 New supplies of this great Hoya for 2010. Beautiful pairs of thick succulent leaves--much reduced in size compared to most Carnosa cvs--each wavy waxy leaf margined creamy white; habit is prostrate, making this cultivar most ideal for succulent wreaths and moss topiaries. Sometimes sent in moss as a generous unrooted cutting.

60094 HOYA LACUNOSA ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.75 Tassel-like pendant umbels of fuzzy lemon-greenish white flowers with lemon centers and soft fragrance (a very clean aroma) perfectly match the dwarf-statured quilted leaves; the name derives form the lacunose leaf surface. That is, the surface of the leaf is cupped or depressed between the veins. Malaysian native beautifully displayed in small baskets to present the dangling scented flower clusters easily or trained on a moss topiary. Certainly the least challenging small statured cascading species to easily bloom as a houseplant. If not currently in pots, easily shipped as an unrooted cutting in moss.

60373 KALANCHOE BEAUVERDII SCANDENS CRA HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "False Hoya" The wiry stems and blackish-green narrow curved leaves are Hoya mimics--but the adventituous plantlets on the leaf tips and the nodding maroon-dotted flask flowers strongly indicate the true identity. From Madagascar, where the hooked leaves help in the scramble through the brush and thornshrubs to display the showy clusters of blossoms to potential pollenizers...always a favorite of kids and luckily, only one swathe of lawn need be mowed in order to earn enough to afford this wonderment. Certainly a statement when trained on open wire topiary frames.

Rare terrestial species from Madagascar, ever so perfect when introduced to a succulent wreath design as it loves the perfectly drained moss. While usually available in pots in the nursery, often shipped as a generous cutting in moss.

68270 SANSEVIERIA BALLYI 'MINNIE' [RAUH'S KENYA] AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Bright green spiky "Hedgehog" type with many stolons (even from upper trunk); the fat upper keeled lower third leaves adorned with a papery horned edge. Much shorter and more compacted clusters of leaves than similar larger statured ones from Kenya. A Werner Rauh collection which has undergone many name changes over the years. Certainly among the cutest unfriendly plants we offer.

68154 SANSEVIERIA SENEGAMBICA [CORNUI] AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.50 Short upright curved leaves flattening toward the tip end with a slim point, the surface a matte-green with faint banding. Good compact waxy leaved species with reddish rhizomes & violet-white flowerss. If grown in a moss or coconut fiber basket, it loves to send forth stolons thru the medium to emerge through the fiber to form new plantlets resulting in an amazing "globe" of foliage being achieved--a trick also endearing this very compact grower to designers of succulent wreaths. Very easily grown houseplant with the endearing trick of elevating itself up out of its container--not very fussy about light intensities.

68162 SANSEVIERIA SUBSPICATA [HORT] AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 This clone we have is from Manda's collection, representing the most easily grown form most common in USA--Deep green-black undulate wide leaves on slender petioles, with bright horned edges; the very short leaves overlap in irregular tostled rosettes. Tolerant of much neglect. Some customers enjoy starting this in a mossed wire topiary whereupon it gradually sticks out its meandering stolons to form writhing rosettes of foliage eventually covering the entire surface--quite wonderful, although requiring patience. This stoloniferous trick also endears this very compact plant with succulent wreath designers as well. We hope not to be accused of shameless price gouging on this guy.

60445 SEDEVERIA HARRY BUTTERFIELD [HYB] CRA HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.75 "Mule Tail" Easily grown (in full light and adequate moisture with perfect drainage) large "Burro Tail" with tightly packed pearl-toned leaves completely covering the cascading succulent stems; considered a Hummel creation named for one of his contemporary nurserymen.

60462 SEDUM BURRITO CRA HP CGH PRICE: $ 3.75 Smaller, rounder & whiter leaves than the traditionall "Burrotail" on strong stiff cascading stems; silvery meal-dusted leaves less likely to shatter than other similar species. The best form by far for a dramatic hanging basket plant; wonderful in succulent wreath designs.

60466 SEDUM LINEARE VARIEGATUM CRA CGH HP HH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Star Sedum" Soft much-branched ascending stems are covered with soft white-margined leaves; Its low mat-forming quality makes this a common cascading basket subject and a natural for succulent wreaths. Cool winters trigger this Japanese species to cover itself with starry yellow flowers late spring. Although listed in various books as Z6 or Z7 winter hardy, it has never survived a winter here outdoors. We list it as a tropical, but it is often used in the south as a perennial.

52172 TILLANDSIA USNEOIDES BRO HP TGH HH PRICE: $ 1.75 "Spanish Moss" Silvery-gray threaded masses of tiny plantlets in dramatic garland famous in subtropical and tropical America for their eventual effect on draped trees; yet the perfect houseplant for compulsive mister-ers. Not collected--this is a bright silvery clone from Guatamala (and thus not needing the chill winter of any collected in the southern USA where most clones are a shade dingy gray in color anyway) which has been growing happily in our Ohio greenhouses for the last 20 years. We notice that our customers are beginning to use this lavishly in their terrarium designs where it thrives; or draped upon succulent wreaths, where it's a wonder.

Needs good light saturation to maintain this level of rich variegation; perfect in windowboxes, small baskets. Sometimes confused in the trade with the much more petite Callisia repens variegata.

50548 TRADESCANTIA SILLAMONTANA COMM HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "White Velvet" or Gossamer Plant" leaves heavily pelted with white silky gossamer wool; showy magenta-lavender flowers; best if severly pruned seasonally--reduce watering during the winter rest and give a haircut. Mexican native still offered and listed in Europe as Tradescantia / Cyanotis velutina.

40957 VANILLA PLANIFOLIA [FRAGRANS] ORC HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Always popular vine. Wide leathery waxy leaves line the thick vining stems; important commercial "Vanilla Orchid" source of the vanilla bean--the yellow-green flowers are hard to produce with inadequate light, considerable heat, and considerable patience.
