West indies native basic to tropical bonsai, yet performing beautifully as a bright windowsill potplant, given adequate even humidity levels. Alice DuPont. 53196 MANDEVILLA PINK VELVET APO TGH HP PRICE: $ 7.00 Fabulous intensely pink trumpet flowers in tight clusters similar to the popular 'Red Velvet' --- the wide ribbed foliage is also similarly beautiful, while slightly more glossy.

68444 MANDEVILLEA RED VELVET PPAF APO TGH HP PRICE: $ 7.00 Mandevilla 'Red Velvet' is a tropical vining plant that produces large 5-6" flowers that are "red when it's hot (85F) and pink when its cool." In the heat of the late spring and summer the blooms turn a beautiful bright red color. As the name implies, the blooms look like red velvet. In the early spring, with cooler temperatures the blooms are various shades of pink, then as temperatures warm to the mid 80's the flowers began to turn bright red. The flowers last for about 5 days. They open pink and turn red as they mature. Since flower color is affected by temperature, light and humidity it is not known for sure that the bright red color will appear in all areas that the plant is grown. The color in Florida is bright red under Florida conditions when temperatures are in the 80's F. Each flower stem will last months and may produce as many as 60 blooms with 3-5 blooms open at one time. Once in flower the plant will flower constantly, producing many flower stems. Its peak flowering season is March through November but may bloom year round if grown in evenly warm temperatures. It grows best in full sun conditions with moist soil and a medium rate of fertilizer. Blooms appear approximately 10-12 weeks after pinching. Mandevilla 'Red Velvet' is ideal for trellised containers or hanging baskets. 'Red Velvet' is very vigorous and grows faster and stronger than most other Mandevilla.

40459 MANETTIA INFLATA [LUTEO-RUBRA?] RUB HP CGH PRICE: $ 6.00 "Firecracker Vine" Pubescent climber with tubular "Candy Corn" flowers red with yellow tips; must have reliable levels of humidity and very bright light to set flower buds. 66774 MANIHOT ESCULENTA VARIEGATA EUPH HP PRICE: $ 15.00 Major rarity, the gorgeous "Variegated Tapioca" has deeply lobed leaves with radiating bright yellow central stripes; the heavy tuberous roots are the stuff of cassava and other starch products. 41434 MARANTA LEUCONEURA KERSHOVEANA VARIEGATED MARA PRICE: $ 4.75 Variegated "Rabbit Tracks" with white splashed leaves. Any order with multiples of this will needs be treated on a propagate-to-order basis.

40641 MARANTA REPENS [HORT] MAR HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 "Miniature Prayer Plant" Moss green demure leaves attractively brushed with chocolate "Rabbit Tracks"; reliable, although shy to exhibit its pale mauve dancing skirted flowers with their purple eyelash lines. 57514 MEDINILLA SCORTECHINII [ORANGE SPECIES] MEL TGH PRICE: $ 00.00 Paired pleated leaves foil the dramatic terminal clusters of bright orange blossoms.

10607MICROGRAMMA PALMERII [NITIDA] POLYP TERR TGH $ 25.00 Many semiglossy small elongated-oval fronds held erect over the slim, hairy, slightly flatened rhizomes meandering over cork or treefern; because this fern evolved upon tropical treetrunks, it survives low humidity better than some; but truely thrives when given artifical rain forest (good humidity) conditions in a terrarium where it forms a dense otherworldly groundcover. We ship this miniature gem as divisions in moist moss.

10667MICROSORIUM MUSAFOLIUM POLYP TGH HP PRICE: $ 12.00 "Banana Leaf Fern" Black rhizomes topped by incredible cream green fronds with radiating dark veins creating a mosaic. Due to the foliage texture resembling reptile skin, this is newly declared "Crocodyllus" and so patented as #13653! Long a favorite houseplant among our customers (not realizing that their old strap fern was about to reappear as a brand new plant!) because the leathery fronds are most tolerant of less than humid household conditions.

10671 MICROSORIUM PUNCTATUM GRANDICEPS POLYP HP CGH PRICE: $ 15.00 "Terrestrial Elkhorn Fern" The elegant upright jade like flat strap fronds terminate in fabulous crests. Excellent, hanging basket subject best known as Microsorium polycarpum grandiceps. If you like these crested "Elkhorns" be sure to refer also to the fabulously crested Campyloneuron phyllitidis cristatum also offered on this website.

10672 MICROSORIUM PUNCTATUM GRANDICEPS COMPACTA POLYP HP CGH PRICE: $ 15.00 " Dwarf Terrestrial Elkhorn Fern" The elegant upright jade like flat strap fronds terminate in fabulous crests. Excellent, more compact version of the above also good for hanging baskets but also good for larger wardian cases and growlight setups. Excellent "Dwarf Terrestial Elkhorn" with stout bright green simple fronds arching upward from the surface rhizome to flaunt its spreading much branched tip crests--one of the easiest ferns for the house as well as one of the showiest.

10664 MICROSORIUM PUNCTATUM SERRATUM [LACINIATUM] POLYP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 "Saw Tooth Kelp Fern" formerly M. intergifolium serrulatum. From strong woody surface root stalks arise dramatic ranks of tall membraneous erect strap fronds with their entire undulating glossed margins heavily toothed--a good first candidate to try to grow in this category of dramatic footed ferns with elaborate erect solid (no pinnae) fronds as 'Serratum' is always a vigorous grower far more tolerant of low humidity than its brethern and astounding visually if planted in the center of a hanging basket or urn to add a vertical art noveau touch to otherwise cascading plants--especially when combined with other ferns with a lower statured habit.

47139 MIMOSA PUDICA LEGUM TGH HP PRICE: $ 8.50 This is your childhood "Sensitive Plant" with upright prickly stems from which angle out pealike bipinnate leaflets which cloes up quickly upon being touched, along with the leaf stalks drooping down along the main stem. This "Humble Plant" of South tropica America eventually produces tiny pale pink stamened powder puff blossoms, given sufficient sun and nutrients. If you cannot find this locally, you can order it from us seasonally, as it is usually available during the warmer months. This is often requested for school projects, or sometimes just for fun.

59393 MIRABILIS JALAPA LIMELIGHT NYC CGH PRICE: $ 5.75 Lilac flowered "Four-O'Clock" with lime ochre foliage. The tuberous roots can reach 40 lbs. in warm climates such as its native tropical America. Many of you order this every year whether we list it or not. It be listed.

53040 MONOCOSTUS UNIFLORUS ZIN TGH HP PRICE: $12.00 "Lemon Ginger" Clustering one foot tall stems hold spirals of glossy waxed leaves and single large ruffled crepe blossoms of pale yellow-orange. Choice ginger, probably now extinct in its native Peru, because the foliage is always attractive on short clustering stems and the solitary showy blossoms are generously produced without particular fertilizer or sun cycle stimulations being necessary--and it is never dormant as long as receives constant tropical temperature levels.

30646 MONSTERA ACACOYSQUENSIS ARA HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 Meandering stems with occassional punctuations by slim scimitar, Epipremnum-like leaves with random lime mottling (in bright conditions) and the odd aperture with maturity. Develops beautifully fenestrated mature foliage if allowed to scale a wall or tall mossed pole. Unimpressive as a young plant, but just wait!

30271 MONSTERA DELICIOSA ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 7.75 Vigorous "Splitleaf Ceriman" with stout succulent stems supporting the impresive oblong-perforated leathery shield leaves and impressive cord-like aerial roots. < 30267 MONSTERA DELICIOSA ALBO-VARIEGATA ARAC TGH HP PRICE: $ 95.00 "Variegated Splitleaf Philodendron" Wide windowed and split foliage splashed with clear white. Stunning if grown in high humitity conditions--the white areas will burn or rust if confronted with dry heat over a period of time.

We now maintain sufficient stock to offer this throughout the seasons.

30284 MONSTERA PITTERII [HORT] ARAC TGH HP PRICE: $6.75 Available again. This is a very popular plant. "Swiss Cheese Vine" Oval windows in small leathery leaves; one of the most successful small vines for low light areas. To know it is to love it. Sometimes listed as Monstera obliqua.

30285 MONSTERA SILTEPECANA EL SALVADORE ARAC PRICE: $ 4.25 Small bluish toned twisting javelin shaped leaves of waxy texture with darker mosaic of veins are closely "shingled" along the succulent stem which roots as it wanders--juvenile form, small enough for terrarium display, although as tolerant of exposure as any Philodendron scandens cultivar. A great favorite of topiary designers as perfect coloration for the scales of a moss topiary dragon. (Yes, we do have some very unusual customers.)

30288 MONSTERA SILVER LEAF [SPECIES] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.75 Similarly shaped, but smaller statured leaves than M. pittierii, but seldom forms windows until mature. The leaf surface is entirely blushed with lovely ash-silver. Availability of this can be irregular; please inquire before ordering--for sometimes is ordered in considerable numbers for moss topiary projects, seriously depleting our stock..

30287 MONSTERA STANLEYANA VARIEGATA ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Rich ivory splashes on elongated, round tipped leaves; very beautiful selection of this scandent vine shingled with soft leathery foliage of deep green slashed with ivory white. The foliage remains quite small and the internodes long (even extended at times) on this demure species most at home in a terrarium. Most emphatically NOT the more famous Monstera deliciosa with its giant windowed leaves and clusters of fruit. We cannot ship this extremely chill sensitive species during the cooler months of the year. If you need this by a certain fall or winter deadline, we suggest you consult another vendor.

69027 MONTANOA GRANDIFLORA COMP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 The imprssive "Snowball Bush" of Honduras with large highly decorative foliage deely lobed providing the attractive backdrop for the dramatic extremely double creamy white blossoms mimicing overblown old fashioned roses. In demand for every conservatory! (In such demand we cannot always keep enough ready--so please inquire before ordering multiples.)

53500 MUEHLENBECKIA ALSTONII POLYG HH CGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Tiny teardrop leaves dot the attractively interlaced much branched wiry stems, forming a tight wiry mound eventually reaching several feet. Tiny beadlike translucent berries decorate this distinctive New Zealand species. Please inquire if you need these in multiples as our stock of this slow to propagate species can be easily depleted. (Zone 8?)

40646 MUEHLENBECKIA AXILLARIS [NANA] POL HP CGH HH PRICE: $ 7.75 "Mattress Vine" Very dwarf prostrate wiry "vine" with short branched stems forming matted clumps of dark glossy teardrop leaves; waxy fls usually in twos. New Zealand. Winter hardiness depends on location location location.

Ornamental/Fruiting BANANAS (MUSA) for the 2010 SEASON

ORNAMENTAL BANANAS: The ornamental bananas are among the most popular for the Tropical Look on your patio during the summer. For an introduction to these easily grown lovers of sun, moisture, fertilizer, and heat, we send as Stock #99689 our choice of 5 strong well established potted Bananas for only PRICE: $65.00.

57496 MUSA BASJOO MUS HH CGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Prefering cooler climes, this "Northern Novelty Banana" from the Ryuku Islands sends up large pale green draping tropical foliage from rootstocks needing winter protection (with mulch this is quite winter hardy in our Zone 6 gardens); odd inflorescenceorescence; white pulp fruit insipid; Japanese use 10' plant for fiber. In cooler climates such as ours the head of foliage is more compact and decorative than photos of clumps grown further south where leaves are longer and thus usually torn & shredded. Note the photo in the accompanying images taken just after the first hard freeze--still a dramatic creature, of considerable bulk after its third season! Soon after the next frost, we suggest you cut the succulent trunks off even with groundlevel and mulch with a very coarse material which will not soak up and hold a lot of moisture over the giant roots below.

51932 MUSA DWARF CAVENDISH MUS HT CGH PRICE: $ 12.00 This attractive wide leaved, stocky statured heirloom still remains the most reliable "Fruiting Banana" for northern greenhouses or patios because it easily produces tasty fruit while grown in a container. Certainly one of the most attractive visually; even more certainly the best to start with as it seems the least demanding of this crew--especially if you would like to produce your own fruit.

57498 MUSA [MUSAELLA] LASIOCARPUS MUS HH CGH PRICE: $ 18.00 The extremely rare "Chinese Yellow Banana" pictured with snow on its gray green tropical leaves where native (but the root clump will not survive sub-terranian frost in our experience); small statured (good in pots to display the very distinctive swollen leaf bases); striking artichoke shaped inflorescenceorescence of butter yellow flowers on a separate spike arising from the ground level if this is given chill (but do not freeze the roots) winter cycles. Yunnan native of considerable architectural beauty; very easy to grow as a container subject as long as kept somewhat dry during its winter rest (best to remove dried foliage at this point), then resuming watering and fertilizing once sunlight is strong once more.

40650 MUSA [ENSETE] MAURELII MUS TGH CGH PRICE: $ 28.00 "Abyssinian Black Banana" While having the thick heavy substance of M. ventricosa, the blackish red leaves flaunt mahogany midribs and margins; purple-carmine underleaf is revealed as leaf unfurls; red-bracted inflorescenceorescence. This is the astounding giant we keep at the patio-pond area here every summer. Come fall the foliage is removed and the tub is carted off into the unheated (but never freezing) porch for the winter where it always unfurls several dramatic bronze leaves for tropical drama while the snow falls outside. If you watch PBS's series on Africa, note stands of this banana around the Eritrean villages where the natives use every part of this plant in their economy. In our experience, this never offsets--the most ordered ornamental form currently as its photo seems to (quite deservedly) crop up in magazines everywhere. Certainly the most easily grown of all the tribe as a container plant--but be sure not to pot in a deep container as the roots grow more outward than directly down.

66863 MUSA SIAM RUBY MUS TGH CGH PRICE: $15.00 We have been working on this wonderful and colorful new Banana with some of the best color around. We all thank Tony Avent for his struggle to get this variable beauty into USA horticulture.

54575 MUSA ZEBRINA ROJO MUS TGH HP PRICE: $ 15.00 "Red Blood Banana" Very ornamental "Sumnatrana" specimen with gorgeous reddish maroon underleaf accented with dark red trunks. Remarkable urn plan for your deck or for your estate as the long exotic leaves develop even more pronounced reddish chocolate toned splashes on them in full sunlight. Just cut back trunk to one foot and bring the tub into your basement for the winter if you don't have a greenhouse in the north--it will resprout come spring! Remains the most rewarding for those who have limited space but still want the exotic tone given by an ornamental red splashed banana to any group of tropical plants.

40654 MYRSINE AFRICANA VER TGH HP PRICE: $ 6.50 "African Boxwood" or "Cape Myrtle" Thick-foliaged popular pseudo-bonsai, pleniful tiny leathery coin shaped leaves stud distinctly fastigate woody stems. We recommend this for indoor bonsai for it can be shaped successfully; nonetheless, the very erect woody trunks just cry out to be staked topiaries with single woody trunks toped with (if constantly tip pinched) rounded globes of deep leathery green.

42156 NASHIA INAGUENSIS VER TGH HP PRICE: $ 6.25 "Bahana Berry" Tiny crinkled fleshy leaves, with lovely mint/verbena fragrance, on rigid much-branched twiglets emerging from woody trunks--perfect tropical bonsai; the orange berries (following petite verbenia-shaped cream flowers) add that distincly vanilla flavor to Moujean tea. Also used in topiary as the flexible stems will follow the contours of any moss filled wire form or driftwood surface and the tiny leaves remain shingled on the surface. Never let this dry out or face the horrible truth of terminal dormancy. We only ship this during warmer months.

20188 NAUTILOCALYX LYNCHII GES HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.50 Erect fleshy stems with brazen glossy purple-bronze leaves, and odd yellowish-cream flowers with maroon hairs tucked at leaf axils. The "Black Alloplectus" is very easy Gesneriad potplant--but completely intolerant of chill.

20201 NEMATANTHUS GREGARIUS GOLDEN WEST GES HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.50 The thick waxed leaves are margined creamy yellow. Striking foliage accented by the ivory-orange guppy-mouthed flowers. Quite fabulous as a house or greenhouse showpiece; perfect when grown under lights.

Handsome, yet modest.

20477 NEMATANTHUS YELLOW MAROON #82-123 GES TGH PRICE: $ 5.50 Stout upright stems, toned red, hold elongated heart leaves with felted surface and red-veined reverse. Attractive inflorescence with tubular blossoms emerging from dramatic calyxes: and the colors would be? (Check clonal name.) This is far more vigorous and strapling than the others we maintain.

40661 NEOALSOMITRA PODAGRICA CUC TGH HP PRICE: $ 15.00 "Sea Urchin Plant" From huge "Swollen Pickle" ground-level stems, thinner succulent stems arise, bearing rough waxy, fingered leaves; unique yet of easy culture. The basal thick "pickles" form this season, then send up vines the next. Too much fun not to grow.

42002 NEODYPSIS DECARYI PAL HP TGH $ 12.00 Striking Madagascar "Triangle Palm" The gray-brushed leather pinnate fronds thickly arise from the three sided trunk distinctive for the bulging leaf bases. Excellent specimen for indoors. We have offered many tropical palms over the years with little enthusiastic customer response to any but this easily grown marvel.

54394 NEOMARICA CAERULEA BLUE HAWAII [HYB?] IRI CGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Remarkable "Giant Toad Cup Lily" with tall strong, nearly glaucous, fans of erect iris leaves; showy wide clear pale blue "Iris" blossoms with elaborate multihued designs. Must have full sun to perform well. This species does not reliably produce plantlets on the old flowering tips as does the following much more easily grown N. gracilis.

40664 NEOMARICA GRACILIS IRI HP CGH PRICE: $ 5.25 "Apostle Plant" Fans of leaves with spikes of Iris blossoms of pale lilac with brown, yellow, and blue. After blooming, their supporting spikes deeply arch to touch a nearby surface (thus "Walking Iris") as new plantlets form where earlier the flowers bloomed. Central American species with delicate fragrance.

52132 NEOREGELIA AMPULACEA ZEBRINA [HORT] BRO HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.50 Very showy compact epiphyte, forming colonies of leathery urn-shaped plants joined by tinker-toy stolons; each narrow urn's dark olive leathery leaves dramatically banded maroon.

Nephrolepis species, the Boston Ferns, for the 2010 SEASON

The Boston Fern is always popular and comes in many variations. We offer some of the most distinctive variations below.

14002 NEPHROLEPIS BISSERATA FURCANS POLYPO CGH HP $ 6.75 "Fishtail Fern" Large; frond tips fork into sections; this is a very large statured robust fern demanding a considerable space when mature--as tolerates full sun, now also a popular deck subject--but will take some time to achieve its full potential. Jones classifies this ornate cultivar as Nephrolepis falcata forma furcans. Slow to start, but strong to finish--never allow this to chill! For windowsill pots and mixed combination plantings we recommend various of the following tidier (and less agressive) dwarf selection:

14009 NEPHROLEPIS CORDIFOLIA BUTTONS [GARRETTII] POLYP HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "Tatting ribbon Fern" Small erect, then somewhat arched fronds with all pinnae reduced to rounded buttons along the rachis--larger statured than N.C. 'Duffii' with appearance of Pellaea rotundifolia. Also called 'Patty Roosevelt' even though, like all the cordifolia cultivars, this forms weird subsurface tubercules resembling sci-fi cocoons and thus is definitely not an exaltata cultivar at all despite all the plant tags from Florida to the contrary!

11649 NEPHROLEPIS CORDIFOLIA HANDY POLYP HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.75 Very dark green mounding "Dwarf Petticoat Fern" with fronds closely ranked with glossy crinkly pinnae; when a frond reaches 6" to 8" it starts to crest by forking and reforking at the tips. Give this little forker good light and keep evenly moist. Excellent houseplant; fabulous conservatory showoff. For a long fronded "Turkey Tail" version, please note the N. Cordifolia 'Tesselata' offered below.

14026 NEPHROLEPIS CORDIFOLIA KINKY POLYP HP TGH PRICE: $ 22.00 Rigorously erect dwarf fronds barely unfurl their deep emerald dusky-bearded leaflets. Much smaller, more compact than similarly leathery-fronded 'Floral Fantasy'--but also very slow growing and intolerant of shade and thus recommended for the advanced fern collector.

14010 NEPHROLEPIS CORDIFOLIA TESSELATA POLYP HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.00 "Petticoat Sword Fern" The tips of each dark green strong mature frond are tasseled and re-tasseled to form remarkable heavy cockscombs; easy houseplant as can survive watering lapses due to reserves in the tubercles underground. Plant must mature considerably before it has the strength to start sending out mature forked fronds.

11632 NEPHROLEPIS ECUADORIAN SWORD POLYPODIA HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Handsome "Ebony Sword Fern" with crisped pleated pinnae on dark rigidly held fronds; erect habit. For us, very slow to establish; not a good choice for southern customers as easily stunted by prolonged periods of high temperatures. Quite distinctive vertical statement, starting out a pale green but (with good fish emulsion) eventually turns a blackish green hue. OFTEN IN LIMITED STOCK, we ship only after the pot is well established.

14014 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA AUREA POLYP HP PRICE: $ 12.00 "Golden Boston Fern" The heavy fronds are solid chartreuse yellow; makes a striking hanging basket subject; yet seems astoundingly similar to the golden variegated cultivar offered below in this listing of exaltata cultivars. Known as 'Delilah' in Australia & South America; as "Blond" in California.

11700 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA EMINA POLYP HP PRICE: $ 12.00 New fern in the kinky range. This will be available for shipping mid summer. We are taking orders now for shipment about August 1.

14021 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA FRINGED VASE POLYP HP PRICE: $ 12.00 "Fringed Vase Boston" This can take a fair amount of sun. Very congested grower with many "fringed" ruffles all along the rachis of each frond. We highly recommend for those needing a tight growing and slightly upright profiled fern. Sometimes labelled "Emerald Vase" or even (quite incorrectly) as "Floral Fantasy."

14025 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA HUBBARDII POLYP HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.25 A select dwarf clone from Michael Hubbard, larger than 'Wanamaka' but with similar erect bunched habit. Easy houseplant for limited space.

14031 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA ROOSEVELTII POLYP HP PRICE: $ 7.50 "Roosevelt Fern" New lower price for smaller but very nice plants for 2010. Each pinna crests only at the end. Unusual 'Gloriosa'selection with extremely elongated 4' plus fronds, some without crests, others exceptionally frilled. From an heirloom plant of extremely open irregular habit shared with us by F. W. Boehringer.

11653 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA POM PON POLYP HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.50 'Pom Pon' could easily be called "The Cheerleaders' Fern"--but of course we will not stoop to such sorry humor! This is such a well behaved small statured Nephrolepis noted for each pinnae being quite rounded in outline that both growers and the public take to it instantly. The color is very consistenly a bright green and seems quite pest resistant. It forms a very tight and rounded and full ball in a hanging basket. Of late we note that it is becoming a favorite of those designing wardian case compositions looking for an alternative to the stiffer, more vertical cordifolia 'Duffii' and 'Buttons.'

11661 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA RITA'S GOLD POLYP HP PRICE: $ 12.00 "Rita's Golden Boston Fern" The heavy fronds are solid golden yellow; makes a striking hanging basket subject. It looks in many ways like the "Nephrolepis exaltata aurea." I would not think to order both.

11554 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA SASSY POLYP HP PRICE: $ 9.25 "Table" fern or small hanging basket...considered to be a quick, reliable, wonderfully improved cross between Compacta and Teddy Jr. This fern really fits its name, "Sassy," appearing fresh and sassy! Easy to grow, all plants in a block exhibit the same growth rate and uniform looks. New introduction from Santa Rosa with nicely ruffled pinnae crowded along modestly sized fronds.

11586 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA SUZI WONG POLYPOD GH PRICE: $ 7.50 Dwarf lacy selection--unlike most extremely delicate types, if adaquate moving air is available, the fronds do not discolor & brown easily, even though layer after layer of froth develops on each frond. Avoid excessive humidity; best with good air movement--thus even though it has the perfect appearance for your Wardian case, Suzi may not be the best choice for her lower skirts may get a bit messy if the humidity level is extreme that is, if your case is kept quite humid.!

14034 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA TRI-TIKI POLYP HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Deep green recurved pinnae criss-cross; very packed fronds with geometric riffs & valleys: combines the most levels developing the most congested fronds of any cultivar we know and thus needs high humidity with excellent air movement to prevent rot and algae buildup in the interior of these thick multi-layered fronds. This heirloom cultivar which we originally found in Ron Arant's collecion remains, many years later, still the choice of compulsive collectors who need to grow the absolutely most completely over-the-top hyper ruffled "Boston Fern." That is, the imperative fern for those with a severe petticoat complex.

11405 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA VARIEGATA [PPAF] TGH POLYP PRICE: $ 18.00 The true "Variegated Boston Fern" with long dramatic fronds, with the individual pinnae green, gold, or typically striped green and gold--remarkably beautiful, certainly rare. From Exotic Foliage Nursery, [PPAF?]--this "Tiger" requires very bright indirect light and adequate air movement to best display its completely remarkable strong substanced foliage.

14035NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA VERONA LACE POLYPOD HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 "Verona Lace Fern" Very finely cut, lacy Boston cultivar from the old Easterbrook collection. One of the old standbys which vanished from the trade because of its insistence on relaible levels of humidity, but still excellent for extravagantly large hanging basket displays if proper conditions can be met. Sometimes the old heirloom becomes the new star--seldom found in the nursery trade as requires considerable time and patience for it to achieve its potential..

11558 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA WHITMANII POLYP HP CGH PRICE: $ 7.00 "Lace Fern" or "Feather Fern" with very fine pinnae creating a thick mist of delicate appearing fronds, yet does not demand high humidity. "Cordita's Ruffled" appears to be an alternative designation of this most excellent windowsill potplant.

11480 NEPHROLEPIS PECTINATA POLYP HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.75 "Basket Fern" A toothed sword fern species forming enormous fronds reaching 6' with maturity; lacy pinnae. For those ready to go well beyond "Just a Boston" fernwise and wish to impetuously plunge into the realm of the mighty weeds of the fern folk . Imperative when you need the big tropical (and decidedly vertical) expansive effect well beyond the 'Macho Fern' (the N. acuminata tribe) in affectation.

40669 NERIUM OLEANDER CARDINAL APO HH CGH $ 8.00 Leathery leaved "Oleander" with unrepentantly rich red flower clusters. These toxic sapped shrubs need full sun in order to bloom; so best considered a deck container subject or greenhouse citizen in northern climes. Traditionally an outdoor shrub in such areas as the Rio Grande valley.

40668 NERIUM OLEANDER VARIEGATUM PLENUM APO CGH HP PRICE: $ 10.00 The leathery long leaves are edged irregularly in ivory; the impressive clusters of flowers are double pink to lavender, streaked pale rose. Handsome. An older cultivar, yet very seldom offered in the trade.

66803 NICANDRA PHYSALODES SPLASH OF CREAM SOL CGH PRICE: $ 4.50 Sold only to ancient children: yes, a blue flowered "Variegated Shoo Fly Plant"--we've not even seen a whitefly on the richly splashed foliage. As this "Apple of Peru" ships very poorly, we will send only packets of seed.

The NIGHTSHADE FAMILY (Solanaceae)
The NIGHTSHADE FAMILY--more than peppers, 'maters, 'taters & tobac! Major food, medicinal & ornamental plants belong to this enormous family (over 1,700 species belong to the genus Solanum alone); we offer the following genera under the code bundle SOL for Solanaceae: this includes Brugsmansia, Brunfelsia, Capsicum, Cestrum, Datura, Lycopersicon, Nicandra, Nicotiana, Petunia, Physalis (HARDY), Solandra, Solanum, Streptosolen, & Vestia as listed in this catalogue, at the nursery, & in occassional lists. We can pick five from these genera as Stock # 90233 of five plants for only PRICE: $15.00--let us know whether these are destined to hanging baskets, bedding, urns, or midwinter greenhouse blooms.

52142 NIDULARIUM MICROPS BICENSE BRO HP CGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Compact glossy vases of very stiff leaves, shiny red-purple beneath, giving effect of maroon laquer. Distinctive in any Bromeliad collection, requiring only high light saturation to form a tight clump of elegant glossy maroon vases with the constitution and general habit of its cousins, the Neoregelias. Never overlook such a salward beauty.
